After repair and root canal treatment

When it comes to eating and drinking after dental treatment, it depends on the type of filling you have had. A standard, permanent composite filling is ready immediately after your dental appointment, which means you can eat and drink as normal after the treatment. If you have chosen to have anesthesia, the effect may last for a few hours after the treatment, but it will gradually wear off on its own. So if you have had anesthesia during your visit, we recommend that you wait until it has worn off before eating, as you may accidentally bite yourself.

If, on the other hand, you have had a temporary tooth restoration, a different material is used which takes longer to set. In this case, you may want to refrain from eating for about an hour after the treatment, but you can still drink as usual. When whitening your teeth in the clinic, the dental staff use a gel that contains, among other things, hydrogen peroxide. A special guard is also used to prevent the strong gel from coming into contact with your gums and the rest of your mouth. The treatment takes about 2 hours.

After treatment, you may sometimes experience soreness when chewing or tingling from the tooth. These discomforts usually disappear within a few days. If they continue after a couple of weeks or if you experience severe pain, you should contact us.

Keep it clean when you have crowns, bridges and implants

Artificial crowns or bridges do not protect teeth from caries or tooth loss. Bridges sometimes create spaces between teeth that are difficult to clean. For example, bacteria can get stuck at the junction between your own tooth and the artificial crown. Keep your teeth clean with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. You will usually need extra fluoride in the form of tablets, chewing gum or mouthwash. You may also need an extra small interdental brush and floss to access and clean. During your visits, you will be given individual advice on how best to look after your teeth to prevent you from developing dental problems. If you have a lot of crowns or bridges in your mouth, it is particularly important that you see your dental hygienist regularly.
